Welcome to Buddy Check!

Buddy Check provides services that enable people to connect with each other, build communities and find ways to help improve their mental health. These Terms govern your use of Buddy Check features and services that we offer.

We don’t charge you to use Buddy Check and its services covered by these Terms. Instead we rely on donations, grants, and affiliations, from individuals and businesses to be able to provide our services to you.

We don’t sell your personal data to anyone, and we don’t share information that directly identifies you (e.g. name, email address, other contact information) with other organisations unless you give us specific permission.

Our Privacy Policy explains how we use your personal data and your rights to review how we use it.

Services Provided

Our mission is to build a community and bring the whole Armed Forces community closer together through shared experiences and advice. To help us with our mission we proved the services described below:

Provide a personalised experience for you:

We allow you to provide as much, or as little, information you wish to share with other members. This is through your personal profile page, forum, webchat, and blog interactions. Through these interactions we can analyse trends and see where we can provide the best service we can for you.

Connect people and organisations:

Our goal is to assist you find other people and organisations that can help you. From the data we get from your interactions, we are able to tailor our service to make sure that we can make finding help easier. For example, from your post on a forum we are able to allow other members to share in your experience, as well as be able to signpost to other organisations who may be able to help. By being able to provide this service for you, we believe that you will be able to build strong ties in the community, and in turn, provide help to others.

Express yourself and communicate about what matters to you:

There are many ways for you to express yourself on Buddy Check. By sharing your experiences with your peers via forums, live chat, and blogs. We believe you will be able to release some of the weight on your shoulders, as well as being able to help others who are in a similar place. By allowing you to express exactly who you are to a community that understands, we hope you are able to find your happy place.

Helping you to discover communities and organisations that may help you:

By bringing these communities and organisations together, we want you to be able to find somewhere you belong. Discovering people and organisations who can help you find your happy place again.

Combating harmful conduct to protect our community:

People will only interact within our community if they feel that it is a safe space. We will try our best to remove content that is harmful and could cause distress to our members. However we might miss some, so we will rely on you and other members to report anything you deem inappropriate. We want to protect our community so anyone who is found to be abusing our services will be suspended or removed. We will also contact law enforcement agencies if we feel it is necessary to do so. Protecting our community is extremely important to us and we will do our utmost to make sure you feel safe in it.

Researching ways to improve our service:

We are constantly looking at ways to improve our services to make sure it suits your needs. Therefore we analyse the data from our members to understand what you use the most and areas of improvement. Our Data Policy explains how we use this data to support our research and development of our services.

Global Access to our services:

To be able to operate and enable members from across the world we need to store our data. Our platform is created using the WordPress hosting platform. Further information regarding data storage can be found in the WordPress agreement.

How we are funded

Buddy Check will always be a free to use service. Therefore we rely on donations, grants, and affiliations to other organisations to fund what we do. Our members’ privacy is also central to how to build a strong community. That is why we will never sell your personal data.

The data that we do use to apply for grants and funding from other organisations is completely anonymous. For example, some of the grants we will apply for will be specific to certain age groups or areas in the UK. Therefore the data we will be using will be specific to those subjects, age (18-24, 25-30, etc) and area (North east, south, etc.). We will never use your personal information (name, email, etc) for any application.

All personal donations will be conducted through third-party organisations (JustGiving, Virgin Money Giving, etc.). Therefore your data will be subject to their Terms and Conditions.

Your commitment to Buddy Check and our community

We provide these services to you and others to help build a stronger Armed Forces community. Therefore we need everyone to make the following commitments:

Who can use Buddy Check

When our members share their experiences and opinions, it makes our community come together and be safe. Therefore to make sure you are accountable for your actions you must:

  • Provide accurate information about yourself;
  • Create only one account and use it for personal purposes;
  • Not share your password or give access to your account to anyone else.

Buddy Check is for the Armed Forces community, both serving and veterans. Therefore you cannot use Buddy Check if:

  • You have not served in the UK Armed Forces
  • We’ve previously disabled your account for breaches of our Terms or Policies.
  • You are prohibited from receiving our services under applicable laws.

What you can share and do on Buddy Check

We want our members to be open and honest about themselves. Allowing you to share content, but not at the expense of the safety and well-being of others or the integrity of our community. You therefore agree not to engage in the conduct described below (or to facilitate or support others in doing so):

  • You may not use our services to do or share anything that:
    • breaches the Terms and other terms and policies that apply to your use of Buddy Check.
    • is unlawful, misleading, discriminatory or fraudulent.
    • infringes or breaches someone else’s rights, including their intellectual property rights.
  • You may not upload viruses or malicious code, or do anything that could disable, overburden or impair the proper working or appearance of Buddy Check.
  • You may not access or collect data from our services using automated means or attempt to access data that you do not have permission to access.

We can remove or block content that is in breach of our Terms. We will contact you and explain any options that you have to request another review, unless you seriously or repeatedly breach these Terms or if doing so may expose us or others to legal liability; harm our community of members; compromise or interfere with the integrity or operation of any of our services; where we are restricted due to technical limitations; or where are prohibited from doing so for legal reasons.

To help support our community, we encourage you to report content or conduct that you believe breaches your rights (including intellectual property rights) or our terms and policies.

We also can remove or restrict access to your content, services or information if we determine that doing so is reasonably necessary to avoid or mitigate adverse legal or regulatory impacts on Buddy Check.

Limits on using our intellectual property

If you use content covered by intellectual property rights that we have and make available in our services, we retain all rights to that content (but not yours). You can only use our copyrights with our prior written permission. You must obtain our written permission to modify, create derivative works of, decompile or otherwise attempt to extract source code from us.

Additional provisions

Updating our Terms

We are constantly working to improve our services for you and our community. As a result, we may need to update these Terms from time to time to accurately reflect our services and practices. We will only make changes if the provisions are no longer appropriate or if they are incomplete, and only if changes are reasonable and take due account of your interests.

We will notify you at least 30 days before we make changes to the Terms and give you an opportunity to review them before they go into effect, unless changes are required by law. Once any update Terms are in effect, you will be bound by them if you continue to use our services.

We hope that you will continue using our services, but if you do not agree to our updated Terms and no longer want to be part of the Buddy Check community, you can delete your account at any time.

Account suspension or termination

Buddy Check is a place where our members are welcomed into a safe space to express themselves and share their thoughts and opinions.

If we determine that you have clearly, seriously or repeatedly breached our Terms or Policies, we may suspend or permanently disable your access to your account. We may also suspend or disable your account if you repeatedly infringe other people’s intellectual property rights or where we are required to do so for legal reasons.

Where we take such action, we’ll let you know and explain any options you have to request a review, unless doing so may expose us or others to legal liability; harm our community of members; compromise or interfere with the integrity or operation of any of our services; where are restricted due to technical limitations; or where we are prohibited from doing so for legal reasons.

If you believe your account has been disabled by mistake then please contact us and we will investigate the cause immediately.

If you deleter or disable your account, these Terms shall terminate as an agreement between you and us, but the following provisions will remain in place.

Limits on liability

Nothing in these Terms is intended to exclude or limit our liability for death, personal injury or fraudulent misrepresentation caused by our negligence, or to affect your statutory rights.

We will exercise professional diligence in providing our services to you and in keeping a safe, secure environment. Provided that we have acted with professional diligence, we do not accept responsibility for losses not caused by our breach of these Terms or otherwise by our acts; losses that are not reasonably foreseeable by you and us at the time of entering into these Terms; and events beyond our reasonable control.

If you, or other members, have concerns about your safety, or the safety of others, you must contact the emergency services on either 999, 111, or The Samaritans on 116 123.


We try to provide clear rules so we can avoid disputes between you and us. If a dispute does arise we would like full disclosure form the start so we can try and resolve the problem at the earliest opportunity.

If you are a consumer and habitually reside in a Member State of the European Union, the laws of that Member State will apply to any claim, cause of action or dispute that you have against us, which arises out of or relates to these Terms or the Buddy Check services (“claim”), and you may resolve your claim in any competent court in that Member State that has jurisdiction over the claim. In all other cases, you agree that the claim must be resolved in a competent court in the United Kingdom and that UK law will govern these Terms and any claim, without regard to conflict of law provisions.


These Terms make up the entire agreement between you and Buddy Check regarding your use of our services.

Some of the services that we offer are also governed by supplemental Terms. If you use any of these services, you will be provided with an opportunity to agree to supplemental terms that will become part of our agreement with you. To the extent that any supplemental Terms conflict with these Terms, the supplemental Terms shall govern to the extent of the conflict.

If any portion of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining portion will remain in full force and effect. If we fail to enforce any of these Terms, it will not be considered a waiver. Any amendment to or waiver of these Terms must be made in writing and signed by us.

You will not transfer any of your rights or obligations under these Terms to anyone else without our consent.

These Terms do not confer any third-party beneficiary rights. All of our rights and obligations under these Terms are freely assignable by us in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, or by operation of law or otherwise.

We always appreciate your feedback and other suggestions about our products and services. But you should know that we may use them without any restriction or obligation to compensate you, and we are under no obligation to keep them confidential.
